Background

TIIDE2025

Translating Innovative Intelligent Design to Entrepreneurship (TIIDE) is a 14-week immersive customized program for innovation and entrepreneurship from the perspective of design, organized and sponsored by the International Institute of Design (IDI) of Zhejiang University, which welcomes students from SUTD for study, exchange and practice.

  • Dual Mentorship from Zhejiang University-Startups.
  • Attend two customized courses and receive a transcript from Zhejiang University that supports credit transfer.
  • Engage in innovation and entrepreneurship activities, closely interacting with startup teams to gain comprehensive insights into the process of technology incubation.
  • Rely on the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem to encourage trial and market testing, promoting product innovation and market adaptability.

Course 1. Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship (3 ZJU credits)

I. Entrepreneurship Learning (4 weeks)

  • Class Arrangement: 2-3 sub-classes, with a schedule of 4-4-4 sessions per week.
  • Instruction Modalities:
    • Offline lectures and workshops led by enterprise mentors.
    • Online learning through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
  • Practical Exposure: Visits to startup companies.
  • Mentorship Matching: Mutual selection between SUTD students and mentors.

Course 2. Design and Future (2.5 ZJU credits)

I. Cultural Experience Activities (4 weeks)

  • Class Arrangement: Subgroups of 3-4 students each, with a schedule of 6-4-0 sessions per week in the first month and 0-4-6 in the next two months.
  • Instruction Modalities:
    • Offline lectures from distinguished guests.
    • Offline seminars on topics related to visits.
  • Practical Exposure: Visits to museums and major technology companies in Hangzhou.

  • Practical Exposure: Internship opportunities through partnerships with 8~10 companies across 6 industries.

  • Practical Exposure:
    • Group work to construct a research report on topics that arose in the first month.
    • Mid-term progress presentation.

  • Practical Exposure: Self-directed projects under the guidance of enterprise mentors, with assistance from the course teacher and graduate assistants.

    • Academic support from course instructors and teaching assistants.

III. Final Presentation (4 weeks)

  • Practical Exposure: Research report revision and finalization.
