ZJU Design
The discipline of Design (ZJU Design), founded at Zhejiang University (ZJU) in 1990, is a distinct discipline where design, arts, humanities, engineering, and sciences converge. It is one of the few leading design programs to offer degrees at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels within a top-ranking multidisciplinary research university. The discipline has been rated A+ among Chinese universities by Times Higher Education (THE) recently. Its mission is to nurture the next generation of designers, entrepreneurs, researchers and educators with essential characteristics of innovation, problem-solving capacity, pioneering spirit and global vision. It also aims to become an internationally leading base for cross-disciplinary design research with particular strengths in applying research outcome in industries and social services.
ZJU Design owns a top-level research team with more than 70 full-time faculty members, including one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and one member of the State Council Discipline Evaluation group. Currently, there are more than 300 undergraduates, 70 master students and 40 PhD students. Half of them have diverse backgrounds such as computer science, mechanical engineering and management. There are more than 100 exchange students from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Italy and other countries each year.
International Design Institute of Zhejiang University was officially established in November 2011, committed to innovative design personnel training, academic research and social services. The Research Institute is not only the undertaking unit of the doctoral program construction of design science of Zhejiang University, but also the participating unit of the undergraduate course of industrial design and product design, as well as the construction of master’s degree program of design and industrial design engineering.
The ZJU College of Computer Science and Technology(CCST) neighbors the picturesque West Lake and Laohe Mountain. Since its inception in 1978, it has become a harbor where groups of young students start their dream and a place where generations of scholars endeavor. In 2020, It is ranked among top 11th by U.S. News and top 40th by Times Higher Education Ranking in the subject of computer science globally.
The School of Software Technology, Zhejiang University was founded on February 27, 2001. It is one of the first 35 national model software schools approved by National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Education. Zhejiang University was rated as ”First-Class” University and Software Engineering was rated as first-class discipline by National Ministry of Education in 2017. According to 2017 Academics Disciplines Ranking of Chinese Universities by China’s Ministry of Education, Software Engineering is in leading position in China (Ranking A+).
Zhejiang University has a long history of archaeology and the tradition of art education. Before liberation, the old Zhejiang University had related disciplines of art and archaeology. In May 2019, Zhejiang University decided to set up a school of art and archaeology on the basis of the Department of Art, the Department of Cultural relics and Museology, the Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the Research Center of Ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting.
